AIM-260 Joint Advanced Tactical Missile to Replace AMRAAM

US Air Force Plans to Field New Air-to-Air Missile in 2022

Lockheed Martin's AIM-260 JATM to Enhance Air Combat Capabilities

The United States Air Force is set to replace the Raytheon AIM-120 Advanced Medium-Range Air-to-Air Missile (AMRAAM) with the Lockheed Martin AIM-260 Joint Advanced Tactical Missile (JATM) in 2022. The AIM-260, also known as the Joint Advanced Tactical Missile, has been in development for two years and is designed to enhance air combat capabilities.

The AIM-260 features advanced technology that will enable it to engage targets beyond visual range, providing pilots with greater flexibility and effectiveness in air-to-air combat. It is part of a multi-year procurement plan aimed at bridging the gap until the introduction of the highly classified AIM-260 Joint missile.

The development and fielding of the AIM-260 JATM mark a significant advancement in the Air Force's efforts to modernize its fleet of air-to-air missiles. Lockheed Martin's expertise in this area positions the AIM-260 as a key asset in enhancing the US Air Force's combat readiness.
